Marathon world record-holder Kiptum, coach die in a car crash
While driving from Kaptagat to Eldoret around 11 pm (2000 GMT) on Sunday, the 24-year-old Kiptum and his Rwandan coach Gervais Hakiziman tragically lost their lives in a car crash. Kiptum made a significant impact on the marathon scene with his outstanding achievement of setting a new world record of 2:00:35 in Chicago in October. With his exceptional performances and ambitious goals, Kiptum was widely recognized as the frontrunner for marathon gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
